Meet the Limited Edition TEGERA BBQ Glove – Tested by Die Frau am Grill

To mark Ejendals’ 75th anniversary, we launched a special edition TEGERA barbeque glove – built for serious grillers who value safety. Who better to test it than Germany’s BBQ expert and YouTuber, Anja Auer – known to her followers as Die Frau am Grill?

We spoke with Anja about her path to BBQ stardom, her grilling philosophy, and her first impression of the new TEGERA BBQ KING 227 glove.

From Pilates to Prime Ribs – How It All Started

Surprising as it may sound, Anja didn’t begin her career in front of a grill.

“Few people know this,” she says, “but I’m a certified Pilates instructor. We had a small recipe blog on my Pilates website www.anjaauer.de – including some grilled dishes. The feedback was instant: You should start a YouTube channel about grilling!”

That encouragement was the spark that led to the creation of Die Frau am Grill – now a go-to destination for grilling inspiration in Germany and beyond. Anja’s early success came at a time when grilling content online was still relatively rare.
“It’s different now – nearly every second person with a grill in Germany has an Instagram or YouTube account. But back then, the attention and feedback were really encouraging.”
Today, she still balances her grilling content with Pilates classes, teaching six online sessions per week. “It keeps me grounded,” she says with a smile.

Grilling Safely: Anja’s Golden Rules

When asked about the biggest safety challenges at the grill, Anja’s answer is immediate: stress and distraction.

“Stress leads to mistakes – especially when mixed with too much wine. That’s when people forget to turn off the gas, or they touch the hot grill without gloves. The key is preparation.”

Her non-negotiable safety tips include:

  • Keeping distance from buildings, trees, and hedges
  • Having a fire extinguisher nearby
  • Using proper heat-resistant gloves
  • And making sure no children are close to the grill

“They might complain, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I don’t want to have regrets later.”
